Walkers

Once your baby is walking, they will move up to the Walkers class. This milestone varies considerably from child to child. Babies often start walking around 12 to 14 months of age.

Walkers Offering

Our ratio in this classroom is 1:6.  In this class the toddlers start following a daily routine.  Throughout the day each child receives individual attention from our passionate and dedicated staff.

IMPORTANT:   At The Nurtury we do not believe that you can spoil a baby!  We strongly believe that babies do not cry for no reason.  No baby is left to cry.

Development

Although the ages will differ, we refer to these classes as the 12-36 month classes. Our daily routine includes a variety of songs, reading, art, age-appropriate activities, as well as free play.

Stimulation

Toddlers learn through play and we have a vast range of age-appropriate toys and playground equipment.  Our fantasy corner allows them hours of fun.   While playing, children learn problem solving, how to share and how to work as a team.  They develop their fine and gross motor skills while having fun.

Dedicated Bed

Each toddler in the Walkers class is allocated their own stackable cot mattress.  Your child’s name will be on their cot mattress, and it will be their very own bed for the duration of their stay.  The cot beds are comfortable, hygienic and easily washable.

Toddler Daily Routine

Nappy changes and wash up times are not included in the daily program as every child is constantly checked to see if a nappy change is needed.  Wash up will be before and after each meal and when necessary.  Unlike the Infants and Crawlers, the Walkers  do not have their own nappy changing station, although each toddler has their own nappy changing mat allocated to them with their name on.  There is no sharing of nappy changing mats.

We do not encourage potty training before 18months.  The average age of potty training is 24 months.  However, if your child shows signs of readiness, potty training will commence with your approval.  Each child can choose to use either a potty or a potty training toilet seat.  Potty training occurs throughout the day at 30minute intervals.

At this age, some toddlers between 12-24months still require 2 naps throughout the day. If your child needs an extra nap, especially the full day children who are with us from 6am-6pm, we will accommodate their needs and catch up on activities they may have missed as a result.

Each child is different, and although we will introduce the daily routine from around 12months, it might take some young toddlers time to adapt to the nap time schedule and we will accommodate them accordingly.

* Free Play (Blocks, puzzles, colouring, playdough, blackboard, sensory table, age-appropriate toys, fantasy corner, reading corner, toy cars)
